How KPH Entomology started...
Entomology has been in my family for several generations. The knowledge of entomology and the skill of pinning Lepidoptera (Insects) has been passed down through the family, originally by my great uncle.
My dad introduced me to the interesting world of insects, I started to see how truly magnificent and unique the insect world was, acquiring an interest in predominantly butterflies and moths.
Having had a very talented mentor "show me the way", I quickly learnt the delicate method for hand setting specimens with their wings spread, showing off their intricate patterns and unusual markings.
By rehydrating the specimens the wings become more pliable and I am able to use a pin on the veins of wings to position them symmetrically. Once I have done this I step, they must dry on the setting board as you can see in the image below. (Morpho Rhetenor Helena - Peru) My personal favourite!
I preserve their beauty by using ethical suppliers and breeding farms from various locations across the globe.
Showcasing them in quality frames and domes for you to show off in your home. Making fantastic unique gifts for lovers of nature and great show pieces in your home
